NeuroMuscular Re-education

Neuromuscular re-education (NMR) is a therapeutic technique that is used to improve balance, coordination, posture and proprioception (the awareness of posture, movement and changes in equilibrium and the knowledge of position, weight, and resistance of objects in relation to the body). Treatment may include balance exercises such as one-legged standing, pelvic tilts, ball exercises and use of a wobble board.  The basic idea of an NMR is to help re-train the pathways from the nervous system (brain and nerves) to the muscles and joints.

Great For: Weak ankles/knees, Weak Core/Pelvic Muscles, and Trigger Points/Myalgia (muscle pain)

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractors use manual treatments of the spine and joints (adjustments/manipulations) to allow the body's natural state of health to fully express itself by allowing the nervous system and musculoskeletal system to work as efficiently as possible.  An adjustment is usually done by hand, and primarily focuses on a joint complex that is either slightly mis-aligned or fixated (called "subluxations"). Sometimes there will be a 'cavitation' or 'pop' associated with the adjustment. This is completely normal and most patients actually like it....but the 'sound' is not the important part, it is the force applied to the joint in a correct manner that is important. The adjustment's goal is to restore proper bio-mechanics to a joint complex, which not only helps with pain, but also helps the nerve function associated with that specific area.  At St. Louis Healthcare Solutions all joints, spinal and extraspinal, can be evaluated for treatment.

Types of adjustments offered at St. Louis Healthcare Solutions:  Diversified, Flexion/Distraction, Thompson Drop Table,  and Activator

Warning:  You should always consult with your physician before purchasing or using certain exercise equipment, nutritional supplements, and healthcare supplies and/or supportive pillows/braces.

Halotherapy

Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy, helps respiratory conditions by inhaling micro particles of pharmaceutical grade salt. Dry salt therapy also helps to alleviate symptoms of many skin conditions. Halotherapy is a natural therapy using dry salt to promote better breathing, healthier skin, sounder sleep, improved physical fitness and endurance, and overall wellness.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio® Tape  is an elastic tape that has many uses. It can be applied on the skin in a manner that causes a massage-like skin movement that directs lymph and inflammation away from an affected area. When placed over areas of fibrosis, the lifting action and increased movement of the skin assists in softening these tissues. The motion of the tape and its action on sensory receptors in the skin can also improve muscle contraction, which in turn aids in circulation and healing. The tape can also be used to stabilize and/or assist joints that have been affected by injury or mal-position.

Kinesio Taping also aids neurologically. Swelling places pressure on sensory receptors in the skin causing pain, numbness and/or reduced sensitivity. When excess fluid is removed, the pressure is reduced and the ability of these receptors to communicate with the brain is improved.

Kinesio Tape can also dramatically reduce the time needed to heal/clear bruising.

Great For: Trigger Points, Sprains/Strains, Muscle Aches, Tight/Weak Muscles, Joint Pain, and Bruising

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure and sometimes motion into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore normal motion. The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web that wraps around muscles, vessels and nerves. Fascia is very densely woven and covers every muscle, bone, nerve, artery, vein, and internal organ.

Myofascial release can be used to treat muscle aches and tightness by re-establishing and maintaining the 'fine slide' that exists between the fascia, muscle, and nerve.

Great For: Carpal Tunnel, Repetitive Stress Injuries (Runners Knee, Tennis Elbow, etc.), Sciatica, Trigger Points, Scar Tissue, Adhesions, and Muscle Tightness/Aches

Physio-therapies

If you have a musculoskeletal problem or injury, you might need some form of physio-therapy to aid in the healing process.  Physio-therapy concerns itself with providing physical healing methods for many different kinds of injuries and illnesses. Some of these techniques are done in a hands-on manner by using massage or manipulation of the musculoskeletal system, while other forms may involve the use of electrical machines to provide an impulse to help blood flow and relax an area.

Patients can get injuries from sports, car accidents, falls, or by doing repetitive motions. These injuries respond well to physio-therapy treatment. Combined with Chiropractic care, physio-therapies can speed up the healing time of most injuries.
