Does Insurance Cover Chiropractic?

Most insurance plans do have Chiropractic coverage and we accept most health insurance plans, including Medicare. Since there are so many plans and coverage varies widely, please call us to find out if your plan covers care in our office.

Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints (nerve, muscles and skeleton). Although Chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with Chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following Chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. After the Chiropractor performs the exam, he/she will go over the findings with the patient and let the patient know if their issue is something that can be helped with Chiropractic care and then give the patient their options.

Do I Need A Referral From An MD?

In most cases no, a patient does not need a referral by an MD before visiting a doctor of Chiropractic; although some insurance plans may require you to get a referral from your PCP. Chiropractors are first contact physicians, and are so defined in federal and state regulations. Following a consultation and examination, the doctor of Chiropractic will arrive at a diagnosis and explain to you what your options are, or refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider.

Is Chiropractic Care Appropriate For Children?

Yes, children can benefit greatly from Chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Even without symptoms it is wise to have your child's spinal alignment checked out by a professional to make sure the body is as balanced as possible. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.

Is Treatment Ongoing?

The hands-on nature of the Chiropractic treatment is essentially what requires patients to visit the Chiropractor a number of times. To be treated by a Chiropractor, a patient needs to be in his or her office. In contrast, a course of treatment from medical doctors often involves a pre-established plan that is conducted at home (i.e. taking a course of antibiotics once a day for a couple of weeks and/or taking other meds). A Chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. As far as preventive care, it does take a commitment by the patient, which usually means they have their spine checked out once in a while to make sure they are aligned properly so the imbalances do not lead to other issues, similar to dental care. Your doctor of Chiropractic should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and how long you can expect it to last. What is Kinesio Taping?

The original Kinesio Tex Tape® and Kinesio Taping Method® were developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase, a Japanese Chiropractor who trained in the United States. He initiated the concept in the early 1970's, and worked to develop a specialized tape that could aid the body in healing itself. Kinesio Tape has elasticity matching that of the skin, giving non-restricted support that allows muscles to perform a full range of motion, easily and comfortably. A durable 3 to 4 day wearing period avoids the hassle of applying and removing traditional sports tapes every few hours. It also gives lasting support and pain relief. Kinesio Tape can be applied on the skin in a manner that causes a massage-like skin movement that directs lymph away from an affected area. When placed over areas of fibrosis, the lifting action and increased movement of skin also assists in softening these tissues. The motion of the tape and its action on sensory receptors in the skin can also improve muscle contraction, which in turn can aid in circulation. This improved circulation aids in healing.
